HIT THE NORTH ARTISTS 2026
ALAN MCDOWELL
UK
Hey, I’m Alana. I’m a multidisciplinary artist working across digital and physical canvases, but I’m most at home painting large scale murals in public space.
My work is bold, graphic and colour driven, shaped by my background in design and influenced by pop culture and retro typography. I’m drawn to strong lines, flowing forms, mark making and compositions that feel energetic and alive.
Conceptually, I’m interested in identity, pressure and place. I often begin with familiar symbols or short, direct phrases, using bold form and type at the core of a piece. I want the work to grab people first before it’s fully understood. Whether celebratory or questioning, it’s always rooted in connection. My aim is to make people to pause, interpret and feel something that’s theirs.
I love taking a small idea and scaling it up until it demands attention. For me, public art should feel accessible and human. It should live in the street, belong to the people passing it, and create a moment that lingers long after you walk away.
