New murals bring a splash of colour to Belfast streets
Over 50 new murals have been created by local and international artists taking part in the 2021 ‘Hit The North Street Art Festival’ (HTN), supported by Hennessy.
HTN which is Ireland’s biggest street art festival, saw over a thousand spectators watch artists create a breath-taking array of modern murals at a ‘street art jam’ held in Belfast city centre over the weekend. The new murals can be seen right across the city as well as south and east Belfast as the festival expanded its footprint due to its growing popularity.
Speaking about the success of the festival, Adam Turkington, Director of Seedhead Arts said, “This year’s HTN has been the biggest yet, and we’re beyond thankful to our partner Hennessy for their help in making it happen. It’s been fantastic to see local businesses as well as the hospitality and arts sector continue to support the artists taking part and we hope these incredible works of art continue to capture people’s imagination.”
HTN was established in 2013 as part of rejuvenation efforts in the North Street region of Belfast. The festival and has seen over 200 artists from all over the world visit Belfast, aiming to bring the city’s rich cultural history for mural art into the 21st Century.
Speaking on behalf of Hennessy, Brand Manager Anna McLaughlin said: “It has been amazing to support this year’s Hit the North. The atmosphere at the festival was incredible and watching these works of art be created on walls all over Belfast was unbelievable. Hennessy has a long history supporting artists all over the world and I am so glad we have been involved in Hit the North and supporting our local creative industry! I hope these walls continue to bring joy and excitement to the streets of Belfast.”
