KOOF

IRELAND

KOOF is an Irish artist based between Ireland and Australia. With a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art and a background in Graphic Design, he merges qualities from both disciplines to produce bold, unapologetic, and striking works. His constant juxtaposition of colours reflects his obsession with colour theory, always questioning himself and the viewer on how colour and form create a visual language, one that can never be perfect, just as much as it cannot be wrong. This ties into his ideology that art is for everyone.

With an acute eye for detail and precision, he aims to produce work that is as technically challenging as it is concise. The interplay between structure and sensuousness contributes to a visual language often associated with Colour Field painting and Op Art, alongside a strong homage to geometric abstraction. He describes his work as “Pop-Abstract,” owing to the boldness of his palette. His use of colour emphasises the depth of his unique forms, imbuing them with an energetic presence that evokes a childlike sense of playfulness.

He achieves this through a rigorous process that blends digital techniques with hand-drawn concepts. His meticulous approach involves layering and refining multiple designs, carefully splicing them together until he finds a balance that meets his artistic vision. This process often requires adding or subtracting elements, adjusting both form and colour until they align with his distinctive taste and style.

Having exhibited across Europe, Asia, South America, and most recently Australia, he continues to pursue his passion for creating. He draws inspiration from the visual arts, with the core objective of expressing something new, developing works with open-ended narratives and a spirit of experimentation. Whether through acrylic paintings, large-scale murals using spray paint, or various printmaking techniques in contemporary design, his practice remains dedicated to exploration and innovation
